I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm just not sure what kind of motherboard it is. All I have found my looking on my computer is that the mainboard is Dell Computer Corp. Can anyone help? I was wanting to upgrade and get more ram (2GB), a better video card, and a better cpu.

This cpu is what I'm wanting to get, or at least another 3.2GHz:

Intel Pentium 4 640 Prescott 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

Or:

Intel Pentium 4 641 Cedar Mill 3.2GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor

Thanks,

HummersRock

My parents bought a 1.2Ghz Celeron Compaq 5310US back in 2001, and it can't be upgraded (CPU, Memory, Video Card). It is as far as it can go with RAM and a video card. I want something better, but the problem is I'm in college and I don't have the cash to buy a brand new computer.

I did a lot of research and found that the case supports mATX mobo's and I'm thinking about getting one that supports a Core Duo 2.6 Ghz. This upgrade also requires a new power supply, new memory and new hard-drives since the old stuff is incompatible with such the newer motherboard.

I found all the parts needed for the upgrade and as far as I can tell they will fit on the case. And everything mentioned above is going to cost $460 ($415 with rebates).

My question then: is this a good way to go? Or should I try to save a little more and completely build a new pc?

If any of you have upgraded major components in brand Pcs I would love if you could share how difficult it was for such modifications.

yesterday I accidently shut off my computer at the
power strip on the floor. When I turned back on my
computer the desktop Icons were very big and the
web pages were huge. I talked to gateway and had
to pay for it since my computer is out of warranty.
Nothing worked until I did a system restore.
I am a afraid to completely shut off my computer
at start and turn off computer because I am afraid
the system restore will not hold.
Did I damage my computer by this accidental shut
down? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

My husbands computer got the dreaded blue screen this week and I don't know how to fix it. I can't find the cd to the computer at all and I am trying to avoid buying another windows xp cd. What is possibly the cheapest solution for me to fix it? I will gladly award the 10 points to the correct answer.

Basically I know I can upgrade the RAM from 256MB (current) to 512MB. But as it says the processor is 'upgradable', could I take out the 1.5Ghz and replace it with a 1.7, 2.0 or even as far as a 2.4 Ghz processor?

I'm on a tight budget so getting a new computer is out of the question!

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hi, I have just put together a computer from some old components I had and when it starts up all the fans come on and i can hear the hard disks beginning to spin but there is no display on the monitor. If I remove the video card or ram it doesn't beep at all which I would expect.
Thanks.

I need to find out cuz my friends owe my and if I known what computer games my computer will run I can ask for those computer games for Christmas. I have a Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RS510 and it requires PC-2700 333MHz DDR Ram and it says it is upgradable to 2gigs but that was back when there was only 512mb max so it can use four of those, but I am wondering if I can use 1gig PC-2700 333MHz DDR with the motherboard. Any suggestions? And it is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with HT and I know it is a bit out of date, but is it really super out of date? I don't plan on upgrading to Vista anytime soon, I just want better memory. Ideas? Thanks for your ideas!
