The G5 should be fine for another 3 years or so. You would need to kick the RAM up to at least 1 GB to run the latest versions of MacOs X. One of my family members uses one for her illustration/design business and it has been fine.

"Macs are more money " is bull. Try pricing out a MAC and an equivalent PC, then add all the extra software to the PC and you'll find that they are within 10% of each other.

TIP: A Mac Mini is about $600, and a Powerbook is a better buy, too, over an older MAC. If you are a gamer, stick with Windows.

Try a Ubuntu Linux Live CD, your old PC will rock!!!

It is still a good computer. I would update the operating system and if you do a lot of pics or want to store a lot of music, add memory and max the memory out.

You can always buy a new Mac and sell yours when you need more memory too but update the operating system no matter what. They also have refurbished Macs on mac.com site.
