I want to buy a new mother board and a new powersupply
What should I look for when buying these things?

Is there a maximum amount of watts a motherboard can handle, I do not want to fry it.

The question is.

When buying a motherboard and a power supply unit what should I look for before buying? ?
(It will be nice to know what these things do EX. look for what kind of CPU it supports. BECAUSE IF IT IS AMD INTEL WILL NOT WORK IN IT.) something like that.

Is there power supplies that may not work for certain systems or motherboards? ?

My computer wont turn on..
its a desktop. The fans wont even turn on. It's dead. I unplug and plug the power cord back in but it still wont turn on. .it's a Dell Demension 4600. I opened it up and the power supply is getting to the motherboard, cuz the little light is on. But when i press the power buttton it doesn't turn on. I did a research and somewhere it said that i should try using a screwdriver to connect to pins on the motherboard to see if its the switch which is broken. I can't find the two pins though. Can someone help me? AND is there another way to get my computer to power on?
The motherboard looks like this:

The blue box on the lower right hand corner is where the wires from the power button connect to (in the pic)

About 3 weeks ago I bought a 3 year service plan for my computer from compusa. After watching the news today, they said compusa would be closing after the holidays. What's going to happen to my service plan? Was it a waste of $300 or will it be transferred?

Right now all I have is a CD-RW Drive for my Desktop and I'm looking to replace it with something that can accomplish the following:

I want to be able to burn documents, pictures, music, and movies to CD/DVDs (to back up stuff, transfer files, make a CD, DVD, whatever).

Most importantly, I want to be able to take DVDs I have and watch them on my computer, put them on my computer or copy them to another DVD disc (so I can be able to watch them on a TV, not just the computer). I want to be able to do the same with movies I download (avi, mpg, whatever). I just want them to turn out DVD-quality, and if I can avoid it, I'd like to make sure the process of creating/duplicating a DVD doesn't take hours.

I'm pretty sure you know what I'm looking for. I think what I'm in the market for is a CD/DVD-+R/RW Combo Drive or something, but I don't know if that's the name exactly or what.

I just want someone to help me understand exactly what I'm looking for and what's the best one to get.

about 3 weeks ago my Power Supply Unit(PSU) started making a disturbing noise... I ignored it planning on getting a new PSU as soon as i could. I wasn't having any problems except for having to always turn the pc on twice before it would boot up properly.

2 weeks ago i turned the PC off and then tried turning it on again a few hours later but nothing shoed up on the screen. There were a few clicks coming from the mobo as soon as i turn the power on which didn't used to happen. Everything else sounded like it was working properly, But its hard to tell what was happening without being able to see anything on the screen. The PSU was still grinding. It was a 500W.

Then 1 week ago i got my new PSU (500W) and installed it and everything was working fine. No clicks, no noise, nothing! I used it about 5 times over the last week with no problems.

Now this morning i tired turning it on and the clicks were back! it's def coming from the Motherboard. The new PSU is working fine-no noise.

help!
