It doesn't damn well matter (though at least turn your monitor off when you're not using it).
A well built computer can survive being left on all the time and can also survive being shut down and turned on multiple times a day for at least a decade.
There are arguments about component stress on both sides of the issue but in the real world it just doesn't matter.
As for the cost, in countries with cheap power it won't really make much of a difference in your electricity bill.

there is a lot of debate here. half will say bad, half will say does not matter. I personally leave mine on 24/7 (x4 years going strong) and other than reboots about once every week (once a month or longer on Vista since it uses memory so much better than xp YES IT DOES so don't waste time flaming me) I think the best course for you is to search the net and get the facts from trusted sources that you feel good about. Monitors are different, set a 1 hour power off, or just turn them off at the end of the day.

We leave our PC's on all the time. Yes, it uses a bit more electricity, but our computers get used heavily throughout the day. It would be silly to turn them off, then on, then off, then on. It is less stressful on the machine to leave it on. Have you ever noticed that a light bulb usually burns out when it is turned on, not when it is already on? That is due to the rush of current when it is cold, and cold/heat cycles will overstress components.

its prolly not good, but if u have the power, and freakin awesome cooling system, it would be fine, Like, my graphics card has no fan (massive heatsink works awesomly) and i dont have2 worry about it overheating, and i have liquid cooling so i dont need to worry about anything else frying, But it would prolly b best to shut it off when ur not using it.
