i have a old compaq presario s6500nx.....link>>>>......... & i have a acer aspire t180 with a amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+ 2.21GHz can i put this processor in my compaq because the acer is crap but i heard the processor is good will this fit thx....but i think the motherboard has a problem

i tryed to upgrade to the acer t180 & i hate it i when i surf the web like myspace if i keep clicking on profiles this thing just cuts off its not a virus im sure of that.

no. its most likely that you compaq's motherboard is an intel socket 478 pentium processor or an AMD socket A. either way i think its time to upgrade. save up some money and build yourself a good pc.

Your Compaq is based on the outdated Socket A format. Your fast X2 4200 is AM2 format. They are NOT compatible.

The problem you described could be software related. There could be a conflict with one of your startups. You could try disabling all your non-system startups to check this. Run msconfig to disable startups.
