a few hours ago i adjusted my computer so it would perform to its "best performance" so i could play sims 2 faster. now i switched it back to the windows xp display and now the taskbar still looks like it was when windows 97 was around. how can i get my windowx xp blue/green/ or silver 3d taskbar back!??!

Follow the steps above, but also check the following:
Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. Under the Advanced tab check performance and make sure you allow windows to automatically choose or adjust for best quality over performance.
Also, open the services utility and make sure the themes service is running.

Yes. Right click with the mouse on a black part of the tool bar. Left click on properties. The tab that says "Taskbar" will automatically open up; then see the blue heading that says "taskbar appearance"; the 4th option says "group similar taskbar buttons" UNCHECK this. click apply and ok! No more annoying grouping!

Right click any empty space on your desktop. Properties- Theme- Windows Xp (modified).

right click, properties, go to windows apperance tab, and click down the arrow and chose windows xp style click apply then click ok

Right click on desktop.
Select properties.
Select appearance.
The rest should be obvious.
