i have a Mac OS X 10.5.1, the new 20 in. one, and whenever i restart it, this happens: i restart it, it shuts down, starts again and all i see is the screen light up with the sound, and i dont see an apple appear like its supposed to do, i wait and wait and nothing happens, usually to turn it on i have to turn it off, unplug it and turn it back on, should i ask the mac ppl at the store i bought it at?

My ant has a real old computer, almost 3 years old now if im not mistaken she has AMD Athlon 3400 she complains its very slow and when she plays half life episode 2 (new one out) the computer frezes. She also has vista as Operating System.

Im flying over to visit her next week and i was thinking of buying her a Nvidia geforce fx 5500 PCI (she only has pci slots i made her check with Astra32). I will also install fresh copy of windows xp cos im thinking vista is eating up her ram making her pc slow. Anyways if i buy nvidia geforce fx 5500 pci 128mb will it be able to run games we have today on low settings?

My computer keeps turning its self off, crashing. It can be running something then just turn off. to get it back on I need to turn the power off at the wall to reset it. Often if it’s in the middle of a scan, or running an on-line game. It has even shut down while it is sitting on the desk top , with no programs running.
The hard drive is not full, and I don’t think it’s over heating. This is an intermittent fault, but it is getting a lot worse.
When looking at the task manager it offer says it’s only running at 7-10%.

Does anyone have any help or guidance they could give with this problem.

If I have missed something of the detail please email me and I will give any info that may help, in a diagnoses.

WinXP home, sp2, it’s about 3 years old.

I have a desktop in addition to a laptop. The broadband moden I have is hooked up to a router for wireless. Whether or not I use the router, my desktop would not recognize that the ethernet cord was plugged into it. I went into Device Manager, and the ethernet card is still listed there, but everytime I start up windows, it is automatically disabled. When I re-enable it, it never finishes starting up, it seems to get stuck in the IP Address part. Once it made it completely through startup, but still wouldn't connect to the internet once. I have not made any changes to my computer that could cause this, in fact I rarely use that computer at all except to print something. Do I need to update my drivers, and if so, how could I do that without connecting to the internet? At this point I'm considering just reformatting Windows XP. Any other suggestions?

I want to build a computer for my mother for christmas present. She only use computer for internet and I want to run vista ultimate on it. What is good combination of part that are inexpensive. I have dealt with high end alot but I never built low end computers so little advice could help. Although it is low end I want the computer be able to do good at what it is built for. Meaning not become laggy in vista and run internet fine.

How do you do this to select files from x to y.. Not like command click where you select single files.. shift + click so you select the range. eg

So you click X and then hold down shift an click Y on windows to select them and all the files inbetween... how do you do it on mac

I see it all the time, people say "I want to download more songs/videos, but my memory is full." Why is memory so confused with storage space?

I've seen it even in a textbook before, but why do people think that their CPU is their entire computer? I even had an ex GF who constantly referred to her case as her CPU until I pulled her CPU out one day and sat it on her desk and said, "That tiny chip is your CPU."

I dont even have a case fan or anything. I just got a fan that came with the processor and the fan thats built in the video card. I dont overclock anything so is it okay if i just leave it as it is?

i was thinking about buying a computer case that has better airf flow and case fans, but its so damn expensive to ship here in hawaii. Its like over $100 to ship it here.

I can play now but at times with much PvP interaction or in big cities it lags alot. I know the best answer would be to upgrade both but I HAVE to choose one. I think I actually have 512 MB RAM but only 384 is showing up in computer details. It's a EMachine T6212 with AMD antlon 64 Processor. Which would be better to impove my lag problem? I don't look to play on the highest visual settings just standard.

After a recent power outage, my hp pavilion takes a really long time to start up; It waits at the starting hp screen for around 3 minutes, then it changes to black for around 1 minute before the screen that says Window is starting up, or something like that.
What wrong?

My computer has got a very nasty worm. I've decided that I want to COMPLETELY wipe the hard drive clean and replace Windows with Ubuntu. How do I get EVERYTHING off the hard drive so that I can start over again with Ubuntu.

they dont pop when the 5.1 system isnt plugged into the computer, and when it does pop the lights flicker at the same time. is this a power surge? i recently had to replace my power supply so im thinking this is a possibility. when my power supply did blow it was already hooked up to a voltage regulator. is a regular surge protector better? what can i do to stop/prevent this?

so my computer had this virus so I formatted it but when I was in the installing the beginning part when installing partition (I think it was, where you divide the harddrive into C drive and D drive) and it said I cant copy to the harddrive and stuff like that and I just ignore the and tried it again this time in normal speed (I did Fast format for the first time) and it couldnt copy some files and after the format was done when it was in the stage of installing necessary drivers it wont install some of it and it just says something and couldnt proceed. please tell me what to do!!!

i did this so my computer would not save every picture from most websites i visit..i think it said temporary internet files,i moved the disk space down to 8 from 50 where i had it//

is that okay to do.will it mess my computer up and..will it mess with how many pictures i put on my computer from my digitial camera..

im just sick of my computer saving every website picture...

The mobo is an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe. I just recently started placing the unit into Standby. Everything appears to shut down (Fans, lights etc) and the power light would start to flash. Usually I can press the power button on the front of the case and within seconds, the unit is back to my Windows Desktop. On this day, it didn't do it. I pressed the power button serveral times with no success. I then unplugge the computer from power and let it sit for a few minutes... plugged the unit back in and nothing. Absolutely nothing occurs. I've checked wire connections, plugs, cards, making sure they are all tight and properly installed. There is a green LED on the mobo that lights when the unit's power plug is attached to power. I've removed all cards, other external devices, pretty much everything to see if a hardware device was causing the issue and still nothing. How can I trouble shoot this or are there any suggestions on what I could do to get this unit back up and running? Thanks.
