Desktops - December 2007

I can't get a picure on the monitor. I guess I need a whole Motherboard. Does anyone have any suggestions? The graphics is built in. I Installed a larger hard drive, and put in a Power supply. I need to know more about what I can put in this small computer.

and it says
Video Memory: 256MB (dedicated)
My first question is how important is video memory and will it even be a problem if I'm playing games such as WoW, Call of Duty 4, etc?
And what does dedicated actually mean, does it mean i cannot remove it at all or upgrade it or what?

i recently tried to install a software in my pc. it shows a warning message
windows- virtual memory minimum too low
your sys is low on virtual memory , windows is increasing the size of the virtual memory paging file . during this process memory requests for some applns may be denied........

how to fix this problem ?also i cant able to install tht software dute to this .even installation process doesnt begin due to this .
my pc configurations are : 256 mb ram , win xp etc.,

suggest solutions to do with this configurations....thanks in advance!!

My PC is so slow. It started today. I have cable and it took me 1/2 hour just to type this. I deleted all the cookies and Web sites. I defragmented and cleaned the disk. What else can I do to speed up this evil machine? I know I have a lot programs installed for my IPOD and such but it was working fine few days ago. Can someone please help? I'm getting bald just trying to figure this out. Oh and PS I have window XP..(.I know.).!!

Hmm...i have this old piece pentium II lying at home collecting dust so i was thinking i want to put it at use.
I thought of maybe upgrading it myself as a self experiment from a pentium II to a newer version Pentium IV.

So,is it possible?
I have to change every part of it ?

-On average, how much RAM should Windows Vista Home Premuim take up, using McAfee (which is a huge memory hog).

Right now with no applications running besides McAfee and sound etc in the backround, I'm using between 800-1100 MBs. Is this normal?

-Also I find that my processor sounds like it's working really hard for the first 5-10 minutes after bootup, then goes back to normal (quiet). McAfee does take a while to load, but only like 1-2 minutes. So why does my PC sound like it's working for the first 5-10 minutes and then quiets down? (NOT the fan; the processor).

-Also, how do you make Windows Sidebar (where the weather, clock, pictures are) stay there? When I turn off the computer and turn it back on, it's not there and I have to turn it back on myself.

P.S. My specs are:
- 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
- 256MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600GTS
- Intel QUAD Core Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (Quad is supposed to be good for multitasking...)

I tried to troubleshoot a Dell computer with the Windows XP media center edition. Windows appears to be starting up, but it reaches the welcome screen and stays there. I tried booting from a Symantec recovery disc from a Norton Systemworks Premier package in hopes of restoring the most recent settings, but the software couldn't see the hard drive. I tried to repair the installation with a Windows XP OS CD, but it didn't seem to see the hard drive, either. I thought I could at least leave an Ubuntu Linux live CD so the owner could access the Internet, and after it loaded, it could see the hard drive. I tried to click on the main partition, and the following error message was displayed:

Cannot mount volume.
Unable to mount the volume.
Details
$LogFile indicates unclean shutdown (0,0) Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Operation not supported Mount is denied because NTFS is marked to be in use.

There was more, but I'm running out of space. Is there any way to get back into Windows as it was?

i have an AMD athlon 3600 X2 brisbane Abit AN52 mobo 2 gigs mushkin 400 gig samsung ATi x1650 512 (i don't really game that much) using Xp x64 and ubuntu 7.10

would upgrading to the 5600 X2 be worth it?

also is it just me but i'm get way higher temps using Xp compared to Xp 32 bit 10C worth about
