I have search for a while and can't seem to find out how to replace my hard drive.

I have a dell computer and the hard drive is toast. I bought a new hard drive but have no idea how to load up xp or any of the programs that came with my dell. I cant clone the drive since its completely toast.

So if anyone can help basicly I am asking how to do this from the start with a blank hard drive out of the box. TIA.

Hey,

Today I was working on my main computer when it just randomly crashed.

I held the power button to turn it off, then booted it up again.
It didnt start up properly. The fans are spinning, the lights on the tower are showing, but nothing on the monitor. My mouse aint lighting up either.

The ram in my computer has lights that flash up and down in a row, sorta like christmas lights lol. The faster they flash the more memory usage and vice versa. When I now boot up the computer, the lights only show on the same diode.

I have asked many people, searched many places and still no solution.

help = appreciated.
Thanks.

Mark

Yesterday I was moving my computer around quite a bit. Later, it wasn't powering on, so I installed a new power supply. Computer boots up now, but when I play WoW, the game seems to struggle. It used to run at a solid 60 fps no matter what. Now it runs at 60, but goes down to 20 fps during fights, etc. Could this be the power supply?

I am wanting to buy a new PC as my current one is in serious need of replacing. I've had it for 9 years and figured replacement would be a better option that upgrade.

Anyway, I am not a gamer so therefore will not be using it for that purpose. However, I do like to have various apps running (for instance, downloading music, watching a video, or using MS office, to give you the gist. I want it to be future proof as possible, will be storing plenty of music, photos and possibly videos, so huge memory is a must as well. So i want it to be quick as my current one is slow and its P4 but 1.6ghz i think

I have been looking at the following 2 pc's:

http://www.cube247.co.uk/?customise=32

http://www.evesham.com/products/info.asp?e=9DAED744-E0F5-470E-9F29-2D89AA165659

Also, is it true that if the Windows Vista is only 32 bit it will only recognise 4gb of memory? Why is that
Secondly, Will having a nVidia 8800 GTX 768MB actually help with video quality?

Rogers called me to switch old modem for new " Scientific Atlanta" modem. It is not showing up on my hardware just says 'unknown device' with a big yellow question mark. After contacting rogers internet real tech, his answer was if I'm using the desktop now, then it must be installed properly.
HOWEVER, my computer has been running XXX slow since.
Can someone please help me figure this out?

How much power is that using? I don't mean psu. I'm using Cooler Master Real Power 550W but I want to know how much its exactly using. As in how many kilowatts per hour?

Thanks =)

HP Pavilion A700N about 3 years old. Was working fine, except for some power-management issues (when in standby mode, it would shut off instead of coming out of standby when I touched the keyboard). Won't turn on at all this morning. Green light under the power cord receptacle in the back is blinking.
There was a power outage last night but the computer was off at the time, and the surge protector seems to be working fine.
Thank you for any ideas.

I have a new, refurbished computer with XP, P4, 1.8 GHz, 150GB HD (almost empty) and 1 GB ram. Almost every mouse operation I perform, left-click, double-click, even dragging files, causes the dredded hourglass to appear and it takes about one minute for the action to complete. Does anyone have any insight into this phenomenon.?

Hi. I custom-ordered a PC from CyberPowerPC.com, and went with the "standard" power supply and fan - but am now wondering if I did the right thing. Standard power supply is a 350W. Options are anywhere from a 500W to a 635W, with upcharges of $39 to $79. For a fan - I got the standard cooling unit w/ fan. I "could" get anther fan inside the case for a $3 upcharge. Also, there is a cooling unit called an Arctic Cooling Freezer ... that is only 20dBA loud for an upcharge of $15. Thoughts on staying with standard items, vs. going for options? It will be an AMD Dual-Core 4000+, and I will run an after-market ATI 128MB video card on it. Otherwise, standard stuff (DSL modem, HDD, DVD/CD drive, etc.). Thanks in advance! Oh - I should probably state that my last two PCs - the reason I got rid of them is because of issues with the cooling systems / fans...

If my computer did not come with a CD to erase my hard drive, is there anyway to erase it.

Also, for some reason I am unable to erase the Norton anti-virus that came with my dell 2400 series. When i try to uninstall Norton it tells me that I need to sign in as a Supervisor. My account is already set to administrator.

I have one more problem? when I tried to install Norton 2008, I was stuck again with an error saying that my firewall was blocking installation. I turned off my firewall and the same problem arose.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

with a static crackly type noise over the music. The tracks sound fine on my PC & iPod so I'm guessing it is the CD burner. I've also had some problems on DVDs I've burned. The PC is under a year old. What do you recommend? Do I need a new rewriter or can it be cleaned? TIA

So I was looking at the current desktop lineup from alienware and the top 2 models seem to be:

(ALX CrossFire)
-Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX9650 3.0GHz 12MB Cache 1333MHz FSB - Over-clocked to 4.0 GHz!
-Dual 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2900 XT – CrossFire Enabled

and

(ALX SLI)
-Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme QX6850 3.0GHz 8MB Cache 1333MHz FSB - Over-clocked to 3.33GHz!
-Tri 768MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8800 Ultra – 2.3GB Dedicated Video Memory – 3-Way SLI Enabled

Seems to me like the ATI version has the better cpu option(QX9650) and the NVIDIA one has the better video card option(3-way 8800 Ultra sli). Disregarding prices what system do you think is best? Is cpu power more valued than graphics power?

I have XP Media Center Edition, 8600 graphics cards (SLI), Intel Core 2 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, 650 w power supply, bla, bla.
My system should be able to handle Vista.
I like to play simulators, and I want the better performance if I can get it out of Vista.
Is Vista better for gaming yet?
How are games being played on XP better or worse?
What are the risks associated with changing over to Vista?
Thanks

My friend and a computer shop owner told me their unnecessary. They told me to just touch the case.

Are they necessary though? BTW the only ones I can find locally are cheap $5 ones that have no English (chinese) on the back. However it looks real with fabric, crocodile clamp etc etc...

Is touching the case really work as efficiently as a wristband? I know cheap Anti-ESD wristbands yeild almost same results as regular ones, but die out quicker because of their fabric.

My motherboard has 3 slots for memory. Board takes DDR400. Acceptable memory is PC3200, PC2700 or PC2100.

I just pulled the memory and it turns out I have two PC3200 chips and 1 PC2700 chip.... does the PC2700 slow the system down or have any other adverse effect?
