Try disabling all startups before installing SP2.

Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, ok. Select Startup tab, disable all, apply, ok. PC will restart. Install SP2. After a successful installation, enable all startups again in msconfig.

Worked great for me before.

Sorry Andy, it's unclear exactly what your question is. SP2 will install as a required update from the Windows Update service if your copy of Windows can be Verified by Microsoft as Genuine. Click on this link and select the Express button when it finally appears and it should update your computer with 'All' the latest updates including SP2. You may have to reboot several times during the process but stay with it till it completes - I just had to do a complete reinstall of my XP OS a couple weeks ago and this is the process it went through.
Hope this helps. http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
