HP Pavilion A700N about 3 years old. Was working fine, except for some power-management issues (when in standby mode, it would shut off instead of coming out of standby when I touched the keyboard). Won't turn on at all this morning. Green light under the power cord receptacle in the back is blinking.
There was a power outage last night but the computer was off at the time, and the surge protector seems to be working fine.
Thank you for any ideas.

Even with a surge protector, you should really should unplug your unit when it is not in use.
Try replacing your BIOS battery, pop your RAM cards and any other removeable extension cards out and clean the contacts thoroughly with a hard, white eraser.
If that doesn't work, have your power supply tested.
It could be the M.B. or processor too, but you don't want to think of that until you do the basics first.

well i once had a problem with my pc about the same age, the thing that fixed it was when i took the case off the computer, gave everything a bit of a hoover to get rid of the dust, i then left the case off and turned it on and this huge cloud came out of the computer as it kicked into life and worked better then ever!

try taking out the battery and then hold down the power button for 20 seconds to release any static electric, and try again.

only guessing by the way

Take it to a shop, or have a repairman visit.
Sounds like it's your power supply.
