I have a Compaq Presario SR1817CL Window XP sp2 Desktop PC, AMD Athlon 64, 3200+, 994MHz, with 2.43 GB Ram. and 1 PCI Express x16 slot, Max. output wattage:
300W. 200 GB HD. ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphic card.
I want to upgrade to a better graphic card. I found one. The NVIDIA
8500 GT 512MB PCIe by PNY. Sounds ok, but can anyone advise me on the best card that’ll work within the limited 300watt power supply? Or is this the one I should go with?
I tried my old Radeon X1300 with little improvement.

Ive never built a comp before and have had some help from a friend who now isn't returning my messages for help.
I've put all the parts together, plugged in the comp and press the button, it turns on but the screen stays blank, or turns itself off when the comp goes on.
Also the cd drive won't open when i press the button (is this the cd drive or some other problem)
Any suggestions about the problems and how to fix?
I don't remember the specs for my comp but the screen is quite old, I'm using my brothers old one till I can afford and LCD.

I have just tried to load Win Xp on a new hard drive. It goes through all the usual stuff; F6, Press 'S' then loads the additional drivers from the A drive.
Windows starts to load and looks OK it gets down to what must be the final restart, goes throught the POST ok, onto the MS XP window loading screen then comes up with a blue screen saying....
Technical Information ***STOP: 0X0000007B ()XF789E63C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
What exactly does this mean?
I've tried the MS website but don't seem to get much luck there!

I think I've been loading the correct drivers, I got them from the motherboard website. (Just a thought: Is it the motherboard or Hard Drive drivers I should be adding?)

I'm going out my mind.
Can anyone help?
Thanx in advance

My computer is saying the hard drive is nearly full and it can't run programs because there's not enough space available (it says the C: drive is 96% full). The computer is a Sony VAIO desktop running Windows XP with a 120GB hard drive but the C: drive says its capacity is only 14GB. The D: drive is virtually empty and seems to have the remainder of the hard drive space (it says around 110 GB).

Is there a way to allocate more space to the C: drive?

When I built this computer, it all worked fine. Windows installed perfectly and all is well.

But now when I put the recovery disk in, to try and reformat, the installation says it cannot find my hard-drive...? And it cannot proceed.

It is a SATA hard-drive. I take out the disk and start windows normally and it all works fine, so what is wrong?

Windows XP btw.

the computer recognizes the drive, but not any cd that i put in it. it doesnt show a blank cd, nor will it read ANY cd thats in it. ive uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and in device manager it shows its working properly. Sometimes an error pops up- scsi error-disk not recognized. i switched cd-writers, and same thing, so I know its not a bad writer. i went to hp website to see if theres an updated driver, but nothing. it just seemed to stop working for some reason. it had been working just fine. im running windows xp. i do have a dvd drive in it as well, but its working perfectly. any ideas? im at wits end with it!

Whether I am using it at the time or not, my computer shuts off and starts again. I have been directed to the microsoft website for the "cure" many, many times to no avail. Microsoft says that it is caused by my smartlink modem and I need to install service pack 2. Done that and it didn't help. Any ideas?

Ok, yesterday, I was at a computer store, and the most powerful computer there just happened to have crysis installed (I wonder why)
Long story short, I am still in shock with the DX-10 realism.

HOWEVER, at home, I can barely run the demo on low settings. What should I upgrade next in terms of computer gaming?

Pentium D 820 @ 2.8 GHz
2 GB 533 Mhz ram
250 GB SATA II Hard drive
BFG 7950 GT OC

PLEASE HELP me decide what to upgrade next!

Around two days ago my brother was restarting the computer and he ended up pressing some buttons that led him to reboot the computer (or something similar) and it asked him if he wanted to keep all files and he said yes. But then it turned out that when the computer started all files and programs were no longer there, the computer was like the day we first bought it (with no files and the programs we had were gone).
We have a 2004 HP Pavilion computer with Windows XP. Is it possible for me to recover all the files I had saved prior to my brother doing this?? and if so, how can I go about doing it??

The power supply went out of my old pc so i bought a new power supply and now the thing wont turn on at all except for the fans spinning for like 2 milliseconds when you first plug it in. I talked to the technician and he said it is probably the mother board. Can i just use any motherboard on my computer and hopes it works or do i have to buy a certain one and how much would the price of one run?
