Now, with new harddrive, the modem disappeared, and I can't get onto the internet at all, although the computer does start. Have Windows XP. Help...what's with the missing modem?. Using a cafe internet today.

You need to install the drivers for the modem. Go to the manufactures website download them and install. That should do it.

Go to a friends computer to download then and burn them to a CD or use a flash drive.

You need your modem drivers - take a look at the card to get specifics of mfg / model and visit the makers web site.

You probably need to load all of the "Drivers" for your motherboard and any add in cards that you may be running.

Maybe it needs drivers.
Make sure it's turned on in your hardware list.
