I wonder why my computer continues to draw power to my ethernet cards? These are connected my Router and that shows a connection & on my computers i can see the led lit up. But now if i pull the Plug or shut of the power saver/supply they go off...
is that some deal so people can get in my system or hack my system?
These are high end Dell Computers.
Always wondered about it so i thought i would ask here.
Thanks for reading and responding to my Message.

yea just enough power to power the lights. its a TINY current. just like my motherboard that has an led on it thats on even when the powers off. its not functioning at all.. just lets u know the ethernet port is not broken. usefull for if u have a lot of computers networked and u are diagnosing a network issue.

I'm just guessing, I don't know for sure. But I came to find out a while a go that most newer computers have a feature that allows you to "wake them up" over a LAN line (ethernet). I guess its a way for some Network Administrator be able to turn on a computer remotely. I actually was trying to see if this function could be done through a DSL connection but haven't found a way.
I don't know if you can actually turn your Ethernet card off. but I know you can turn off the function in your BIOS, its something like wake on lan or something.

You probably did burn out your power supply, but there is a couple of things you can do. There should be a small switch on the back of the power supply that you can switch to stop all power. Unplug the tower. Buy a surge protector to prevent this from happening again. Leave it off for at least an hour, then power it back on (make sure to leave the power supply off, if applicable, for the entire hour as well. If your power supply does not have this switch, just leave the computer unplugged) If this does not work, try another outlet and try again. If it still does not work, then yes, it is your power supply.

Unless you pull the plug, some things are still active - like with Ethernet “Wake up on LAN” to switch on a remote PC.

just enough current to power the green/yellow LEDs. If your computer is turned off it cannot be hacked since the CPU/HDD/etc. is not receiving enough power to function.

Its just traffic passing through your port. Maybe someone is scaning ports. Many ppl do that. Although nobody can hack ur pc if its off.
