Lots of reasons for your computer running so slow. If it taking forever to start up and get you up on the internet, it could be because you have some sort of virus or spyware or adware on your computer, which is pretty common. To get rid of all of that stuff, get this: http://www.amazon.com/Virus-Removal-Device/dp/B006ZCHVM2/?ie=UTF8&tag=pubpro-20
It's basically a virus removal device. It actually runs off of a USB device and since it doesn't have to install any software to your PC you can have it working without it slowing down your computer while you're using it.
This little device is one of the rated, best selling virus removal tools as you can see by all of the reviews and rating. It can remove a lot of stuff that those software security products can't fine or remove.
You still want to always be using an anti virus program like Microsoft Security Essentials or whichever program you like to use. Those programs prevent most trojans, spyware, etc., from getting through but for anything those programs miss, this virus remover will take care of it.
Using this device is really easy. Just stick it into your USB drive, click on the drive, and click on Run FixMeStick and that's it. It'll do it's job of finding and getting rid of whatever is slowing down your computer. Since this device doesn't run using Windows, it's immune to any Windows malware so you can use this on up to 3 computers without worrying about transferring viruses from one to another.
Once your computer is clean of these things, you can then try other solutions if your computer is still running slow. Solutions such as uninstalling unnecessary programs, upgrading your ram or memory, clearing cache files, reinstalling various programs, disable start-up programs, defragment your hard drive, etc., are often pointless if you have viruses or trojans on your computer. Get rid of those first and that should speed up your computer.
Be careful of any "free" virus removal websites. Most of those are either not free, scams, or sites that will actually infect your computer with even worse viruses.
Get this device on Amazon. It's one of the best things you can use to help remove that harmful programs on your computer and get it to run faster again...

To answer that your going to need to give us more information.
How much memory do you have? How fast is your processor? How many applications start when you turn your computer on? Do you have anti-virus? (if you don't you probably have a virus which is slowing you down) When was the last time you de-fragmented your hard drive?
Try doing some basic maintenance on your computer. Delete all the junk. Update your anti-virus AND DO A SCAN. De-fragment your hard drive. See if that helps.

Could be a lot of things-----Updates slow things down for a while if you just loaded it. Ram is a factor--got at least 512 in it, Internet is it high speed--or dial up, Lots of things. Got to be a little more specific.

welll thers multipple reasons one could be that it is infected with spyware another is that it needs to be defraged another is that it has to many software programs to load when it starts and a simple way to get it back so the way it was is to defragg it, canncel some of the start-up programs, and scan fro spyware-adware- tracking cookies if that doesnt work then you might wanna get more ram or recover to like a week ago

1) No idea, insufficient information.
2) There's loads of crap that you downloaded that has to load when the machine boots. I'd guess that this also answers 1)
