before in computerland, what matters was the frequency number, how many MHZ or GHZ a computer processor has. This frequency dictatates how fast the clock cycle is and respectively how fast data can be transfered between the instruction cycles on that processor.

however with two cores and multi-cores coming, like Dual Core and Core 2 Duo, the MHZ or GHZ per processor is not as key anymore but it is more on the completeness or efficiency of the system. Can the two processors share tasks? like splitting reading one application and writing another application. Imagine one strong person carrying 30kgs to cross 10meters, he can probably do it in 10sec, but let him do it 10x he might cross the 10meters at a slower pace later. Now compare this with two persons sharing the 30kg weight into 2 15kgs or even 10kgs and 20kgs weight. The two person can have the same time for the whole ten sets of crossing to the 10meter mark. This is how slower frequency but two engine cores work on Dual Core or Core 2 duos. Now imagine multi tasking as two to three tasks, like instead of just crossing straight, the one person carrying the 30kg weight would need to traverse a path with one eye closed and the path is a maze. It would be hard, now with two persons, even if one person was blind folded, the other person can still guide the other person and cross the maze faster. That is the advantage of two cores doing multi tasking.

Your next question then would be AMD or INTEL, dual core or core 2 duo, quad core, and 32bit versus 64bit.

we can tackle those later. ;-)

hope this helps.

Look dear, it depends on the processor's speed.(GHz). But normally speaking comparing both processors of same speed, Core 2 Duo is faster than P4. Theoretically Core 2 Duo is 2 times faster but practicaly you can notice hardy any difference. And this is the a fact.

Core 2. Don't be fooled by the lower clock speed. Its like 2 people working at medium speed verses one person working fast - the two people will get more work done.

It all depends on the software you are using, if it is "multithreding then it can use both your processors at the same time.

if not then a single higher speed processor will run the software faster.........

Dear there is no 1.5GHZ core 2 Duo.
There is Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz, it is much better than P4 . Because Core 2 has 1066Mhz FSB and 4MB cache.....

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SPEED 1.5 GHZ IS NOT VERY FAST. MINE IS A CORE 2 DUO AND IT IS 2.667 GHZ AND IT IS NOT THE FASTEST
