I just wrote a huge answer in paragraphs and my computer decided to hang...No my annoying browser! arggh!

Anyways, i'll just answer your questions in sentences.

Even though your computer doesn't support SLI, yes that "SLI ready" video card will still work in your computer, as long as it's a PCI-e x16 videocard. Your computer takes PCI-e x16 vidocards. Any PCI-e x16 video-cards will work with your computer.

SLI is having 2 PCI-e video-cards run at the same time which will maximize your gaming. You only have one PCI-e x16 slot, and that's why your computer can't run in SLI mode, however you can still run a single "SLI ready" videocard.

An 8800 series video card is a wise choice, here's a good 8800GT video card that's on sale, it should be able to run the latest games in medium-high settings.

Your system can only hold 1GB ram sticks. The maximum of ram you can have in your computer is 4GB, therefore you need four 1GB sticks (4x1GB). Your system takes DDR2 ram with maximum 667MHz speed, however ram is backwards compatible so any DDR2 ram modules will do. Newegg is a good and cheap place to get ram, here's one on sale, 2x1GB sticks for only $37 after MIB which is very cheap at the moment. Buying 2 of these packages will grant you 4x1GB sticks for only $74!

Hope i helped!

SLI is an option that allows you to use 2 graphics cards at once. if your computer is not SLI compatable that only means you only have one PCI E 16 slot. you need 2 PCI E 16 slots to run 2 graphics cards in SLI mode. so even if your computer isnt sli ready you can still use 1 of any kind of graphics cards SLI or not.

you're blending words and consequently is being thoroughly doubtful. in the main question, you reported you opt to SLI NVIDIA with AMD/ATI. the answer to that's no way! AMD/ATI do no longer even use SLI. They use CrossFire extremely (comparable thought, diverse execution). Then in the clarifications you reported you opt to apply NVIDIA card with AMD mainboard/ CPU. it extremely is high quality. No subject with that.

Yes you can buy but it won't optimize your VGA Card.
