Intel is trying to be a monopoly and AMD is the only thing keeping them honest and prices at a reasonable level.

Another point that hasnt been picked up is that the dual core processors for AMD(their AM2 versions). Consume a lot less power than the Intel chips. This is a good thing for two reasons.

1. If you have a desktop and are a download junkie, it will save you in electricity. I have noticed a 10-15 dollar difference in my electricity.
2. Less power consumption, means less heat, which means that the AMD(AM2) also runs cooler, for people that custom build their rigs, heat problems can be a nightmare to handle.

AMD and Intel both make CPU (processer), The 'dual' bit means that there is two. They are both top of the range processers but there is suggestion that AMD is not as long lasting as Intel but there is no evidence to prove this theory. Hope this helps, Tom

AMD and Intel are different brands of processors.

They are 2 different brands as other people have said. I bought Intel because it tends to run cooler than does AMD.
I needed that.

Not much difference to you.....to geeks it a matter of a few million floating point operations that the amd can do faster than the intel...or some otherds that run faster on the intell...

for you though its not something you need to be concerned with, enjoy the new laptop...

ok its like this... AMD and INTEL are 2 different companies and they use different ideas and sockets for their processor.. so intel processors can only go into intel mother boards
and amd to amd

now another major difference is
AMD processors offer your processor more L2 Cache then Intel

where as intel processors offer more Clock speed rather than the cache
thats about it D:

AMD IS BETTER AND FASTER. INTELS OVER HEATS ALOT MORE & WARES OUT THE PARTS. AMD HARDLY EVER OVERHEATS. It is said that an AMD IS TWICE AS MUCH FASTER THAN AN INTEL. for example you have a 1.0 ghz intel. then compared to an amd it would be a 2.0 ghz. IM A COMPUTER EXPERT. YOUR LAPTOP IS EXCELLENT.

Intel dual cores are better than AMD dual cores, but AMD solo cores are better than Intel solo cores.

AMD and Intel two main company's who sell CPU's

AMD's tend to be a little faster and supposedly a little more unstable.

Personally I prefer AMD
