its only started to happen scince we had to wipe the computer and reload windows and put in a new sound card. please help as it will save me much grieff from my teenage daughter.

Make sure the correct drivers for the "main motherboard" are loaded, otherwise it can have problems loading ANY USB devices.
Also isntall ANY software for the ipod before conencting it, so windows knows exactly how to deal with it

hi besides the reality that i can not confirm with out greater information, it appears like the two the drivers for the USB have been in no way put in (that happens, esp with homestead windows XP), for which you would be able to circulate to start up-->administration Panel-->device-->instruments verify the checklist of instruments and notice if there is something indicating a issue witht the USB instruments. on the different hand, if all is nicely there, attempt yet another USB cable, or yet another USB port (in case you have one). If all this fails, i will assert that your USB ports have long previous undesirable.

to unplug your ipod mouse over "safe to remove hardware" at the bottom right on the task bar, select "STOP"

download itunes and when installed open itunes and then plug in your ipod. itunes will detect it and auto update your ipod. simple as that

did you reinstal the chipset drivers and i tunes?
