Do you use more than 2GB of ram each time you use your computer? (such as playing high end games) If so, you will see a BIG difference.
But if you use less than 2gb all the time, then the improvement will be so small that you will barely notice it.
For example, if you use ur computer for web surfing, homework, and light games, 3gb of ram is barely going to do anything.

Don't pay for an upgrade, it is already in your computer!
Just add virtual memory, you are only limited by the amount of free space on your HDD that way and the processor doesn't limit the access to it and bog it down.
I would put 4G (or 4000 in virtual settings) on it and the speed of your HDD will determine the speed of access.
See the site below for more performance tips.

in a 32 bit enviroment sure they'll the two perform an identical, (properly the 4GB one might see 2,768MB of ram) ram relatively does not confirm all out velocity, it determines how lots you're able to do at as quickly as without putting off a lag bomb.

Won't matter if you have 50G RAM if you overload it.
Load only that which is necessary to do the task at hand, lose wallpaper and screensavers, scandisk and defrag regularly, and you won't need so much RAM.
With that said, you will have to check the specs of your computer to see if it will run 3G. My laptop, for example, states that it will run 2G maximum.

only 64bit versions of xp-vista can use more then 2.5gigs of ram so putting in 4 gigs of ram on xp home is kinda fruitless since xp will only use 2.5 gigs for the 32bit version try expanding your virtual disk
