Hi, I have just put together a computer from some old components I had and when it starts up all the fans come on and i can hear the hard disks beginning to spin but there is no display on the monitor. If I remove the video card or ram it doesn't beep at all which I would expect.
Thanks.

It should beep one time when it starts up to let you know BIOS is working, and the Numlock,& Capital Lock lights should flash for a brief second. You didn't remove these,(ram & graphics card), while the computer was on, did you? With no BIOS beeps, you may not have a speaker hooked up. Some mobo's have a semi-speaker device built into the mobo, some use the case speaker. I suggest re-installing ram, and graphics card again. I'm really willing to bet it's in the power supply. A lot of times the fans will spin, harddrive run's, but not all the voltages,(3.3V,5V,12V), are there, making you want to pull your hair out. Once you've run into this the first time, you'll look for it! Trade the power supply out with a known good one, just to test, see if I'm correct.

I not sure. First always use a grounding strap or at least lay one arm on some of the metal case when working to keep Static Electricity down.
The Video Card may be bad. Most have a Generic Driver installed to get you a display until you can install the drivers you need for your Mother Board. If, you have another Video Card you may try it, but, this all I know off hand.
