yesterday I accidently shut off my computer at the
power strip on the floor. When I turned back on my
computer the desktop Icons were very big and the
web pages were huge. I talked to gateway and had
to pay for it since my computer is out of warranty.
Nothing worked until I did a system restore.
I am a afraid to completely shut off my computer
at start and turn off computer because I am afraid
the system restore will not hold.
Did I damage my computer by this accidental shut
down? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Should be okay! What do think happens when the electricity goes off? Power outtage? You've restored your settings. Booting it up a few times,(cold boot, turn completely off, wait a cupla' minutes, turn it back on), will help it. This will occur when you turn your computer off anyway, so no need to re-boot 2-3 times right now. I really expected more from Gateway! They should have told you, to just do a System Restore!

Doing this CAN damage your computer, but not always.

If your icons were big, all you had to do was change the screen resolution by right clicking on the desktop, choosing properties, then settings tab, and sliding the bar.

I don't understand what you had to pay for.

a working laptop or computing gadget dropping potential regularly does no harm. the wear happens while the potential is bumped off and re-utilized interior a nil.5 2nd or so. exceedingly very resembling once you get a flickering of the lighting fixtures or a brown out the place its off for basically a 2nd. This bounces the hardware and would get contained in direction of the potential grant.

Turning off your PC should be fine, so long as you do it the right way in future. It's unlikely that you have damaged your computer, as Windows XP is normally quite tolerant of such things.

My cat unplugs me all the time. Nothing usually happens, if it does, it usually causes a power supply failure.

Doesn't sound like you had any hardware problems.

i think you just need to redo the screen resolution of your pc. right-click on the screen, then click properties, settings tab.
