i have been looking at cpu for my new pc which i am building and im not to sure which to get

i got an amd 6400+ recently but my motherboard isnt compatible with it and i cnt find one tha tis on newegg =[

i prefer asus i guess from what ive read

anyway


what is the difference in the two? intel or amd?

i will be surfing the internet, downloading music, streaming videos (youtube), chatting (aim) school work such as applications like word excel publisher power point etc you get the point and i will also be doing a little gaming but not to much

i want this processor to be a good one so it last me a while.

please provide links if you can for bench marks etc

Currently looking for a new computer on ebay and at a local shop. I'm used to just looking at the Ghz speed, but now things seem to have changed at intel and they have a heap of different 'types' of pentium. My Q is, which one is better ?? I'm looking at 2 on ebay, 1 is a D 925 dual core and the other is a D 935. Or at a local shop there is an E 2140 and a E 6420. I'm LOST ! ! It used to be so easy. Do I just look at the Ghz speed ? Cause some of them are around the 1.8 ish speed and some are 3.00 Ghz ish speed. Just looking at it the D processors 'look' faster, but are they ? Can anybody shed any light on this for me ? I've not bought a computer for years and everything has changed ! What does D, E, Q all mean ??? What should I be looking for ? Any tips, advise ?? Many thanks guys, Steve.

I currently have a Logitec Quickcam Express, which is pretty good. but i want to get a better webcam now, with a much better picture and mic included (my mic I use now was from Poundland lol)

They both work pretty good together, but I want to get a better one with better audio and video quality.

I have been on Ebay and there are 100's of them.

I don't mind paying up to about £40 for the best one I can get, but I am so stuck to which one I should get.

All the technical data is way over my head.

Pixels and all that, what do i need to look for??

All help is greatly appreciated

Dell sells computers preloaded with Windows XP & Vista and have also recently started selling PC's preloaded with Ubuntu & FreeDOS.
The problem is that the computers preloaded with a Open Source (free) OS cost slightly more than the same computer preloaded with Windows?
I would think that this would be the other way around, especially since Linux is a free operating system, that they would pass on those savings to the consumer.

It's aToshiba Laptop

when I start it up nothing shows up ... only the screen with the desktop background.

the internet explorer or none of the icons that used to be there dont even show up...not even the toolbar.

does anyone know how i can get it to start normally?

I keep restarting and restarting but nothing..
I restarted in safe mode but nothing...

Nvidia 6200 LE ( 160 watts peak 110 idling )
80 gb samsung hard disk
asus mobo intel 865 chipset
i have 450 watt power supply assuming i have 400 from it is it ok ? i have bought the graphics card 24 hours back and till now no bad thing it is humming smoothly along ... should i worry ( i live in india bigger smps are not available )

I have just put a new Seagate Barracude 7200rpm Harddrive into the 3.5" floppy disk bay in my PC. It went in quite well and was quite secure. But i haven't screwed it in! I was just wondering if you would advise using screws or not?

i built my own computer:
intel e6600 2.4 ghz 1066mhz lga775
asus p5vd2-x pcie ddr2 gblan
2 modules of 1gb ddr2 667mhz
palit 8500gt 512mb 128bit pci-e
250g 7200 sata
i'm not sure if the motherboard will be able to handle the cpu. and did i do a good job selecting the components? it cost me around $670. i also got a dvdrw dual layer with it.

I have an AMD Athlon XP-M 2600+ that I have overclocked to about 2.61 GHz (2,610 MHz). If the speed rating was 2600+ at a stock speed of 1.9 GHz (1,908 MHz), what is the rating at 2.61? I figured it would be somewhere between 3500+ and 4000+ . How did they come up with this rating system?

Is it possible to delete the ethernet drive from my computer?

I did some cleaning to see if that would help with my computer being slow and since then, the ethernet drive isnt working to let me use DSL to get onto the internet.

When I say cleaning, I did a clean online that removed unneeded registries, old programs, etc. I also use McAfee and did a system clean. Other than the clean, we had a bad T-Storm with very close lightning near our house.

I'm not sure which caused it or if it's just coincidence or not. Embarq helped me do some things to check my LAN, etc. and it is still saying my DSL is unplugged.

How much is a new ethernet drive and how hard is it to install if you know nothing about computers. Embarq told me to get a new "netwrok interface card" IF the new modem they mail me doesnt work.

I dont know if I should take it to a shop for repairs, etc. or not.

The motherboard of my computer has only 2 DIMM slots and both of them are filled with 256 MB DDR1 RAM. ( The mohterboard supports 333 MHz & 400 MHz RAMs). I want to add another 1 GB of memory while keeping the existing RAM cards and the motherboard. Is there anyway to do that?

You can see the background screen, but none of the items, i.e. Internet Explorer, MS Word, etc., pop up, and I can't access documents (or anything for that matter), either.

I do have another computer, but you see, I had some important documents on that computer, and I was wondering if there is any way at all to access them. If not, well, I suppose I got what I deserved: my little cousins come over all the time and load up the computer with junk, I guess the hard drive was full to the brim, or something to that effect...

Anyway, is it in any way possible to access the documents or are they corrupted and therefore gone forever?

I ran a diagnostic program (SIW) and it picks up both cores just fine, but when I goto Task Manager it only shows 1 cpu core no matter what view settings I use. Also, there is not any difference in multitasking from my old single core. I'm just wondering if I need to re-install XP to utilize the full potential since I simply used ASR to get from my old setup to my new one. I also tried updating AMD software from their site to no avail.
