Reinstall ALL drivers including soundcard driver. They should be in the CD that comes with the PC. If CD is missing download the drivers from HP's site.

you need the driver back. If it's the onboard sound then insert the mainboard disc and reinstall the sound driver. If you don't have the disc see what motherboard you have and go to manufacturers website and get it. If it's a card you will need to do the same. Both ways the driver needs to be reinstalled

if you have a CD that came with the computer then you can get the drivers from there otherwise you need to go to the compaq website and locate the drivers for your computer model.

to install drivers ... in control panel go to the add remove hardware section and follow instructions.

perhaps it's a driver issue; look in settings> control panel > sound and audio devices.. check the hardware tab and see if you can locate a fresh driver for the sound card online.

just a guess.

Just reinstall the driver and be sure that your volume control is not in a mute mode.
