i built my own computer:
intel e6600 2.4 ghz 1066mhz lga775
asus p5vd2-x pcie ddr2 gblan
2 modules of 1gb ddr2 667mhz
palit 8500gt 512mb 128bit pci-e
250g 7200 sata
i'm not sure if the motherboard will be able to handle the cpu. and did i do a good job selecting the components? it cost me around $670. i also got a dvdrw dual layer with it.

Yup, your motherboard is compatible w/ E6600. It is just that the board only supports ddr2 533mhz RAM. BIOS will just downclock your ddr2 667 RAM. Your RAM will be more useful if you will overclock.

Yes, that should work well together, though I would have gotten a stronger graphics card such as an 8600GT. The 8500 is pretty wimpy, and the 8600 is only about $30 more, but will give you roughly 3 times the frame rate.

Find out if you can exchange it for an 8600

Yes it would. Congratulations on your new computer! Though, I don't personally know you, I think you're feeling very, very, very, very delighted of having such specifications on your "home-made" computer. You could probably try setting-up your screen with some roses for added inspiration and BEAuty.

go to http://www.newegg.com. Find your motherboard and see if the processor will work on that board.
