one thing i want to know about your pc , is that working properly except this problem .

If yes then u need to virus scanning again with nod32 antivirus available on mejorgeeks.com in antivirus column,if you are using internet on your system then update this antivirus after install. then scan u r system properly

some symptoms of infection:
--->> No folder options in tools menu

----->> while running command (cmd) in run it suddenly restarts

----->>>> trying to open msconfig from run it restart rapitedly

if all this symptoms having then u need to repair windows xp
from cdrom

HARDWARE:

In bios there is option called power management

here you have to check about u r system setting of power management

here on setting called
pc state after power loss/power failure :-- u have to switch it as stay off

hope this would help you

Thanks

kiran

No need to reformat. If your computer restarts on it's own it is just possible that your on/off button is a bit iffy. Try freeing the button with many on/off operations but make sure you are switched off at the wall because you don't want to crash your hard drive.

All of these posts are true, but one great possibility was left out. If you have recently installed or connected new hardware, try unplugging it. I have seen this happen . If there is a confility or compatibility issue, it will do that. If this help, dont forget to vote, best answer, take care.

best to get it backed up ... if you want to shut it down, then keep the power button pressed for about 5 seconds ... will switch off.

There is too little information in this question. The variables are infinite. Re-post or update this question with as much detail as possible. Chances are, one of us CAN isolate your issue.

DON'T reformat even if you suspect OS is messed up. If XP, let its self repair do it for you. Here' how:

It might be a windows issue...(I had it earlier with win98)....or your computer just hates shutting down..
