You can see the background screen, but none of the items, i.e. Internet Explorer, MS Word, etc., pop up, and I can't access documents (or anything for that matter), either.

I do have another computer, but you see, I had some important documents on that computer, and I was wondering if there is any way at all to access them. If not, well, I suppose I got what I deserved: my little cousins come over all the time and load up the computer with junk, I guess the hard drive was full to the brim, or something to that effect...

Anyway, is it in any way possible to access the documents or are they corrupted and therefore gone forever?

OS could be messed up. If XP try this repair:

All files will be intact. Burn your files to CD.

clearly you have a issue with your system files. Restart the computer, and as it begins to boot repeatedly press F8 untill a menu in black and white dos format appears. Select the first (top) option aka "safe mode". Once the computer boots you should be able to boot into the administrator account. If all else fails you can back up your files from here, however try going into your control panel, open the icon users, and create a new user. Then when you restart your computer login to the new account. It should boot all the way.

It doesnt seem to be a great deal.I think that all you need to do is to get all the junk out of the C drive in which all your system data is stored secondly you need to press ctrl+alt+del to access the taskbar and from there type in explorer.exe and you should definately see the desktop.

Try to run disk clean up and delete all temp. files and perform a defragment t your hard disk, or use a registry cleaner to clean up your registry. If not you can get all your files by dismantling your hard disk and try to connect it to your another computer by IDE cable, and don't forget to set it's jumper to slave settingI hope it helps!
