i have an external hard drive that holds all of my music and i was moving stuff around the other day, organizing and creating new folders when all of a sudden it wouln't let me create a new folder. i can still move stuff around but i can't create a new folder; i keep getting an error that says "Unable to create folder 'New Folder' Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)". does this mean my hard drive is starting to fail?

I have a Creative Soundblaster 1024 Live! 5.1 digital sound card from about three years back. When I upgraded my computer a couple of years ago I carried my old sound card across to my new computer. Many new computers these days have on-board sound chips. How do these compare with my sound card? In other words, if I bought a new computer with a 5.1 (or better) on-board sound chip would I be better off using the on-board chip or my old sound card (in terms of sound quality, given the same speakers)?

I have observed many pieces of hardware for sale that says "OEM" and I know what the initials stand for.....but I don't understand what it really means in terms of the consumer like me. I tend to shy away when I see that designation.....is that wrong?

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy OEM hardware? Does it have the same warranty and the same packaging and instructions?

What do you NOT GET if you buy OEM hardware?

I recently bought this RAM (512MB DDR 400) while on sale at CC. Now I read on the back of the package: "Upgrade for Systems that use JEDEC (generic) memory". What does this mean?

Is this memory any good? I bought it to use in a new home build computer that I hope to finish sometime this summer. I'm buying the hardware as it goes on sale.

But after reading this, I'm beginning to wonder about the Kingston RAM. I probably should give them a call.

But I'd like to hear from you guys first. Companies tends to sing their own songs.

Can I use a HDD that I installed in an external enclosure as my "back-up" disk for my important information like "my documents" and "my pictures" by just doing a "copy and paste" of my important information (taking it from my computers hdd and putting it on my external hdd which is in the external enclosure?

I've already done this, but now I'm wondering if it will serve me if and when I need to install this "backup" data on another hard disk drive (if my computer hdd should crash and need to be replaced).

If this works, why do we need these fancy software programs that do it automatically like Acronis and Ghost? I don't mind doing the copy and paste routine every month....if it will allow me to access and transfer the information when the time comes?
