Check out the suggestions at the source site below...

In general:
1) Make sure all MS updates are current and applied
2) Make sure good AV program is installed
3) Make sure good AntiSpy program is installed.
4) Use a good FIREWALL
5) DO NOT USE things like AIM, Limewire, or other openings for Viruses and Spyware.

Also:
1) Check all drivers for current versions
2) Run a good RAM checker and increase RAM to the max. Many lockups are caused by insufficient or defective RAM
3) Run a "disk tuneup" of scandisk and defrag
4) Empty the trash and periodically clear the cache(s)

Could be from a variety of reasons. Reinstall and see if that works. It could be some of the drivers aren't being recognized. I suggest you uninstall the video drivers first and reinstall to see if that is the problem. Then go one by one with the drivers to see if the problem get corrected. Make sure everything is seated properly and all cords and cables are connected. Download the updates from Microsoft.
