The computer will just cut off at any point and I have to completely disconnect the power to turn it back on. I know it is not a virus. It is an HP desktop.

I have been building computers for years. And today my hubby's computer keeps rebooting to the CMOS. I have never had this happen before and I am at a loss to understand what is happening or how to correct the problem. I did check the CMOS to make sure it is seeing the Hard Drives, which it is. I also check to make sure the booting sequence is starting with HDD 0 then to the CDROM. Everything looks ok in the CMOS, but I can't get it to boot to anything other then going into the CMOS.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to correct this problem.

I have known that recently the computer has been shutting down and powering off, or sometimes it will just go into a reboot on its own. I had a feeling it might be because it was over heating. When I built the computer for him I had it set in the CMOS to shut down when the temp reached 160 degrees to protect the CPU and Motherboard from being damaged.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I don't have so much RAM memory and I read that enlarging the swap file may help. Where is that file and how do I enlarge it? I'm using a PC with Windows Xp.

I just bought the Vastech 80mm UV Reactive UV LED Fan. It came with screws and a 4 pin molex power adapter. I already have a fan on my computer right now, but I want to add this additional one. My power supply has enough room to support it. I just need to know where a good place would be to physcially install it without too much hassle. Thanks.

I bought a used Digital Western WDC WD800JD-22LSA0 hard drive from Newegg, and it took me a while to get it installed (it required a SATA cable which i didn't have till just recently) and I finally got it installed, but it aint apearing on my computer. I goto my Device Manager, and it says that it is installed, and working properly, and I went throught the troubleshooting process, and I got confused by the techincal stuff in it. I know only the basics about computers, I managed to build this one, but I aint too far past the basics... Please help me figure out how to access the hard drive and/or get it working to my computer, and fix any problem it may have. I am running short on the hard drive space I presently have, and I could use as much help as possible soon. Thanks.

Im building a couple of computers for a friend of mine. The first one worked like a charm. The second one, on the other hand has been a pain in my A$$! I go to boot it up and it fails POST. The tones are 1 long and 2 short. I've looked on the internet and found that with my bios (phoenix) it means that its Video Adapter Error. Which seems to be true because my monitor will not come out of sleep mode. I've already exchanged the MoBo I've reseated the RAM, moved it to the other 2 slots. and nothing else is connected other than the basic components. PLEASE HELP!!

When I put the disc in the A drive it says the disc is not formatted and will not open. Is there any way the documents on it can be recovered? Or am I totally screwed?

Performance in gaming, I'll now go to AMD, but what's done is done. My PC is a littl eover 2 years old now and yeah. I have a 3.0 Prescott with 4 10k rpm drives, 2 gigs of OCZ and an ATI x850xt. While gaming, fps and mmorpg's, my temps never cruise past the high 50's -- 58c ish... When I play Guild Wars, the temps jump up to 68c. I have my motherboard monitor warning hit me @ 70c.

I clean my cpu off and apply new artic silver about once a year. All my games temps are fine for what I have, but GW's runs a bit hot.

I have a Thermaltake Xaser something with a Zalman fan. I have to open the front door to keep my cpu cooler during GW...

Is this normal? What's the avg operation temps for the prescott and what's your personal averages with any cpu.

Thanks

Ok. So my computer was on and the power went out. The monitor works, but the computer won't start. It is a Compaq if anyone needs to know. There is a green light that is flashing on the back, but it won't turn on. I'm asking this from my old '98. Thank you!
