AMD & Intel are makers of CPU's... Celeron, Centrino, Semprons are differnt models of the CPUs made.

If you mean which is better (AMD or Intel) there is no real difference anymore (it is a Coke vs Pepsi question now & you will just get what people like type answers). When they first came out Intel was the hands down winner (so many are still loyal & swear by them). AMD has come a long way & is now just as good (better depending who you ask). The only real difference in them now is how they get their results vs the results gotten anymore.

As for the types of chips they make, once again better is dependant on what you need (a corvette is not better if you are going down a dirt road then a farm tractor is). Intels P4 is their speed machine (AMD Has/had its Athlon). The celeron does less (cuz it has less cache & things) but it may be all you really need depending on what you do on a pc (that is why it cost less). Once again AMD has its version of the celeron which is the sempron (less cache & speed). Figure out what you want to do with a computer & then get one with the CPU that best suits those needs (best bang for the buck).

The 2 major MANUFACTURERS of CPU chips are AMD and Intel.

They each have a LAPTOP offering with LOW battery use: Intel has CENTRINO and AMD has TURION. Currently only CENTRINO offers a dual processor option, AMD has promised this by late summer, but currently not available.

They each offer a LOW-END chip with CRIPPLED CACHE: Intel calls theirs CELERON, AMD calls theirs SEMPRON. I do NOT recommend using EITHER of these chips, since the crippled cache makes performance AWFUL!

The general purpose chips are: Intel has PENTIUM IV and AMD has ATHLON. Each has a dual processor option; Intel's is PENTIUM-D and AMD's is OPTERON...

In these classes AMD has the edge of superior performance, cooler operation with lower power costs. When AMD's dual processor (TURION X2) is available later this summer, they will again regain the lead in laptops as well.

Intel creates Pentium and Celeron. AMD creates Semperon and Athalon, and Turion. Intel is industry standard and supports more parts from different manufacturers than AMD. But AMD uses less energy right now but is a little slower. However if want to play hard core games, AMD is better for graphics.
