Ok. So my computer was on and the power went out. The monitor works, but the computer won't start. It is a Compaq if anyone needs to know. There is a green light that is flashing on the back, but it won't turn on. I'm asking this from my old '98. Thank you!

your computer should also "BEEP" push the power button and listen carefully.... you should hear a BEEP code.. which will tell you whats wrong with the system.... its most likely memory or a power supply issue.

if you can please add additional info about the Beeps you here... they should be either SHORT or LONG beeps... usually 3 SHORT beeps means memory issues... but not exactly sure...

hope you post additional info

Sounds like you might have destroyed your computer. Sudden surges when power comes back on, can damage computers. It is best to have your computer plugged into a basic power surge protector strip (it has 3 to 6 places to plug in) would prevent this from happening. Sorry!

make sure the power strip your plugged into has been reset
check all cables make sure they are in good
plugs and connections to pc
try plugging into a different socket to make sure something didnt happen to the socket
some pcs have a switch in the back make sure yours didnt get shut off some how
try unplugging completely and let it sit for a 30 secs
then reconnect

Theres a problem with your RAM...
Check it out with a computer technician and replace your RAM if thats the case or there could also be a problem with your SMPS.....Just consult a computer technician.....

If there was a power surge, it may have shorted out your system.
