I bought a used Digital Western WDC WD800JD-22LSA0 hard drive from Newegg, and it took me a while to get it installed (it required a SATA cable which i didn't have till just recently) and I finally got it installed, but it aint apearing on my computer. I goto my Device Manager, and it says that it is installed, and working properly, and I went throught the troubleshooting process, and I got confused by the techincal stuff in it. I know only the basics about computers, I managed to build this one, but I aint too far past the basics... Please help me figure out how to access the hard drive and/or get it working to my computer, and fix any problem it may have. I am running short on the hard drive space I presently have, and I could use as much help as possible soon. Thanks.

I agree with the suggestion that your drive is not formatted. Try going into the computer management tool.

Right click "My Computer," select "Manage."
Under the "Storage" tree, select "Disk Management"

If your new hard drive is correctly hooked in, it should appear, but might not have a designation. The drive might have one or more Extended Partitions. From Disk Management, you can assign the properties for the new drive.

Your computer should now be able to identify your new drive.

This sounds like you have not added the computer OS (operating system) like Windows XP. Windows will automatically correct your problem once you have added the OS. You must purchase the disk from a company like Circuit City or Best Buy so that it has its own serial registration number.

Restart your PC. Enter setup by pressing delete or F2. Replace the type of cabling by choosing IDE instead of RAID.
