i don't know anything about anything thats ethernet related...what are they?

what would an ethernet on the back on my computer be used for.

To connect to network. One end of an RJ45 cable jack is plugged into the ethernet port on your computer (similar to phone cable jack, but bigger) and the other end will be connected to another computer or Cable-DSL modem or a network switch where all other computer are connected in a similar manner.

Ethernet is one of the network protocol. It allows you connect to someone else in the same network and lets you connect to the Internet.

That is for if you get DSL or High Speed. it hooks up to that
