Hi,

I have a really crappy computer. IT's a pentium 3 with about 500 MHZ. I was wondering if I add ram to my comp, will it significantly go any faster? Rite now I'm runnin on 384 MB RAM. It takes about 2 full secondes to load a regular web page while using Comcast high scpped interent and mozilla firefox. Since this proccessoer is so slow anyway, will it help if I put any more RAM on it, or is the proccessor so slow already that no matter what I do with the computer, it will stay slow as is?

I want to take it to school (so think standing, probably tilted, in an empty backpack) since I'm going to be staying with a friend for a week and I won't be able to go back home during that time, but I don't want to damage it. I want to bring it, but I want it to last even more.

Ive been having problems with GeForce 8800 Graphics card. i thought it would run with a 550 watt power supply, it didnt. it kept dying, so i thought the comp was overheating cause of no proper ventilation. now im back to the conclusion that its the power supply which it too weak to handle the video card. the computer only dies when i play a game. it dies about 5-10 mins into the game.

what do i do? what do i get? do i need a better power supply? is it really the ventilation? i really need help...

**i upgraged to 1.5GB now of RAM, and I though that would help it go faster, but it didn't.. Vista i think is pre-installed and I don't know how to go back to just XP, i personally don't really give a d*mn about Vista.. You think Vista makes it slow? PLEASE HELP! Thanks!☺

I have it set to (Initial size 600 - Maximum size 900) 600 - 900. My computer says 333 - 600 is minimal(auto size). Is this bad to have it at? Im using Windows XP and Compaq computer(eww). I will mainly use it for internet, photos and music (and I already own an external hard drive for storage). I do not think I would purchase a Mac, but I have been looking at HPs and Dells online. People have said a lot of negative things about Dell computers, but it seems that HPs don't come with very many options. I'm trying not to be suckered into purchasing a laptop because it comes in a cute color , but I want something that appeals to me. This will become my only computer..... I am currently borrowing my adviser's laptop. Just now it had some strange issues and cut off and would not start back up. I unplugged it from the AC adapter and it came back on. I tried to plug the adapter back in and it shut off and would not come back on. I am plugging it into the comp before the outlet. What could cause this problem? I am a little nervous because I am borrowing it and I don't want to tell him it broke while it was in my care.

I'm starting school in week and am looking to get a laptop before then. I was just wondering if there's a huge difference in speed, or whatever else it might impact (other than cost) in the two processors.
I'm not a gamer or a programmer, I'd just use it for basic everyday things.. school, music, streaming vids, etc. Is it worth shelling out more money for the core 2 duo? I know how fast technology changes.

my computer shuts down on it own while standing in the normal position, i figured it was to hot so i took of the cover to check things out.
If i leave it on its side i have no problems, but soon as i stand it up two seconds later it shuts off. My big fan kicks on and seems to be running ok. I can leave it on its side but i dont know if that makes burning discs more difficult . Any ideas, im a little educated but confused, thanks for any help in advance.
