I have a computer that uses on-board video, I would just like to know if I can purchase a second video card preferably AGP slot type and use it instead of the on-board video. Is this possible? Would it cause any problems? Thanks in advanced.

My computer is custom built using a SIS Series Chipset: K7S41GX The Video Adapter is SiS 661FX_760_741_M661FX_M760_M741.

On the newer computers all you have to do is plug the new video card in and the onboard is automatically disabled. No problem.

on some of the older models you may have to go into the BIOS and change the setting.

If you computer is 5 years old or less I'd say all you have to do is plug in the AGP and you'd be good to go.

Yes, it should be no problem...as long as you have an AGP slot on your motherboard. Clearly, it would not make sense for there to be a spot for you to plug in a video card, and not be able to use it. AGP also has some variations, 2x, 4x, 8x... If I recall correctly, the slot is slightly different, with the "break" in the contacts in a different spot. Some video cards are designed to fit either one though. Just make sure you don't have PCI or PCI-E instead, depending on the age of your machine.

Sure - I often do this. The onboard is often not that great. But it'suseful, before I install the AGP card, to let me plug in my montir, to check if the motherboard is installed & working OK.

Once everything has been checked for the motherboard, I start to install the expansion cards.

Yes, you turn off the onboard video in the BIOS setup. You can not run two video cards at the same time without having problems.

Yes you can.
No it won't.

Tell me your model or PC or mainboard & I will (in turn) tell you more.
