I'm starting school in week and am looking to get a laptop before then. I was just wondering if there's a huge difference in speed, or whatever else it might impact (other than cost) in the two processors.
I'm not a gamer or a programmer, I'd just use it for basic everyday things.. school, music, streaming vids, etc. Is it worth shelling out more money for the core 2 duo? I know how fast technology changes.
Thanks!

I know nothing about AMD processors. What would be equal to a Core 2 Duo? Are they just as good?

Well both the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are dual core processors, so I am not sure what in the hell the first two answerers were talking about. The Core 2 Duo is faster, but for your basic usage if you are looking to save some money, the Core Duo will be just fine. Also, look at the AMD Turion X2s, they are priced well and will also be just fine for your use, they are also dual core.

remember that intel isnot the only company that makes processors AMD processors are just as good if not better i would recommend going with a 2 duo versus the single because music alone reqquires more that you thing to load and keep running especially depending on the programes that you are using for you music

A single core processor is enough for your needs, at least at present. But think, you might have new interests as well in the future like graphics editing, in that case dual core will be better. If you have money to spare, maybe you can go for a dua core.
