I bought a HP Pavilion dv6000 w/Vista Home Basic, I want to dual boot Windows XP, is there any way? It came originally with Vista, I heard it isn't possible, if I uninstall Vista, would I lose the drivers for my laptop?

ok i had a computer charger hp.. and it had torn.. so we had bought one around decmember... of 2006 just last year and today... i woke up this morning with it torn?? i dont get it is there a warranty where i just get a new one for free because there is no reason why it torn??

My computer is made by emachines and I have windowsxp. I still have no sound. There must be another way of finding out if i need a sound card without taking apart the computer and installing a card. Right??? That scares me. I don't even know the definitions of some of the terms that the last person who was trying to help was using. I really want sound.

I have a problem with my screen resolution:

I installed a PC Rom game, everything with that (as far as I can tell...) is fine. However, it told me that the game would run better if played in a different resolution. Being a trusting fool I thought it wouldn't give me the option if my screen wouldnt support it. Apparently I was wrong.
There's nothing wrong with the screen, or the computer themselves. The screen shows the bootup, up until the point (I assume) that the resolution would kick in- my password screen. The screen after that just says "Cannot show resoultion" or something like that. So, Im thinking, there HAS to be a way to change my screen resolution on the boot screen, or something. Anything. Im running XP on a Dell home computer if it helps...

I have a laptop which I want to install windows XP on; the laptop doesn't have a CD-rom, though. I do, however, have an USB hard drive, and a program which allows me to access a windows-like environment that is stored on the external HDD.

So, if I were to copy my XP cd into a folder on my external, what directory and what file would I have to to into and run to get the windows XP setup started.

I have an older 90's model Dell Sabre computer with a new(er) motherboard and processor inside, recently someone installed an ethernet port into it, and when I turned it back on the power light just kind of blinked a little, faded away, and now the computer will not power on at all. I have replaced the power supply a couple years back, could the ethernet port have blown it, or is it fried? I have some important files on this computer not backed up that I really want to retrieve.

Our computer has broken and we've been told to get a new one. I had loads of photos and videos on the hard drive that I would really like to get back. I know it's my own fault for not saving them externally! Any ideas? I don't want to spend a fortune.

First the lap top is a Latitude D820 and it has to be this laptop. In september it will primarly be used as a work laptop for college, major is CS. The only graphics card Dell is offering is a Nividia Quarto 256Mb which is fine for rendering and image programs but for the time being before college I wanted to know if it would be possible to install a Nividia card that would performe well for Movies, graphics, games, editing movies, and others media applications. So basically would it be possible to order the Nividia Quatro with the lap top and then swap it out for 3 to 5 months with another card that is sutited for media applications.
How difficult would this be?
How would one go about phiscially installing this card?
How would one go about software installing this card?
I was reading some where alot about different drivers for these cards? What is a driver any ways?
If the 820 lattitude laptop already has the Nividia quatro driver installed will it confilict with the new card?

I want to get a dvd from the U.S.A which is region 1. Will it play on on my Laptop. Are Laptop's region free. If it won't, can I copy it using my DVD Decypter software, then transfer back onto DVD using region 2?

In my sony laptop my cdrw never recognises any cd that i put in let it be a songs one empty one or even any software...i cleaned the lens as well but of no use...what do i do and how do i do ?it shows all cds empty when i put the software or songs cd why is it so?i keep it clean though free from dust..pls suggest.

I recently purchased a DVD Dual layer re-writer, I have installed it correctly into my pc but it does not recognise ANY disc put inside it. The company I purchased it from have told me there shouldn't be any problems but I've tried everything! Do I need to install a driver for my pc to recognise a Dual Layer drive?

My laptop is running really slow. The graphics are slow too. I run ccleaner on it to clean out the registry and fix errors. I have plenty of hard drive space. I do not have a lot of applications running. I even have memory allocation software that maximizes the memory. These programs are not slowing it down. For the life of me I do not why it is running so slow. I have a DSL connection, and the laptop does not surf as fast as it did when it was new. I have gone to places like meta cafe and viewed their XP demos on how to optomize the OS, however, have not had any luck making my computer work like it should. Any ideas?? Not sypware, virus, or popups...I have already checked. Oh..and it is not operator error. lol

Guys, me and my boyfriend are here abroad and I made a huge mistake while he was out. I plugged in our 110 volts US CPU to a 220 outlet and I heard an electric-like sound. I managed to unplug it in three seconds though. Does this mean my CPU is burned? Does this need to be repaired? IF yes, what part(s) needs to be replaced?

I'm hoping though that this will still work if I buy a transformer. But I'm too afraid to try it cause I don't want to make matters worst if this needs to be repaired. And I'm afraid he'll find out. Please help me out!

i noticed that the metal teeth inside the usb port on my laptop had been bended because when i tried using it the computer would crash so i tried to fix them but I accidently broke off half of one of the metal teeth! what can i do? is this replaceable please help i dont know much about computer stuff can i find a solution for this or am i doomed?

I am a college student who have to print 100 B&W pages per month at max. It's not very important for me to print colored photos but if it does it would be nice. My cosiderations are the low price and the lowest secondary costs (e.g refilled costs). It's difficult for me to make up my mind whether to buy a B&W laser printer or a colored Inkjet?Can you help me to decide? Which one is more preferable for my usage? Thanks for your help.
