Usually no.
You may need to install drivers for the devices you are connecting to the USB ports however. Also, if you have installed a USB expansion upgrade card then you may have to to obtain some of the propietary functionality offered by the specific vendor. But usually the USB ports themselves should work right out of the box.

Yuo may have to install the motherboard chipset drivers. This often contains the USB port drivers.

Very rarely will you need to. If you are having problems with your drivers I would recommend uninstalling them and then rebooting and letting the computerfind and install them again. That should take care of any problem you may be having. If not then go to the manf website and get the newest drivers.

that may depend on the type of computer you have. if you have a name brand computer (dell, gateway...) then all your driver are on the windows disk that should of came with the computer. if you have a coustome built computer you may need to load drivers for the mother board befor your usb ports will work.

They should be preloaded with your OS install. But you can always upgrade them. Visit the site of the PC manufacturer, or the Microsoft support for XP SP2.
