I recently purchased a DVD Dual layer re-writer, I have installed it correctly into my pc but it does not recognise ANY disc put inside it. The company I purchased it from have told me there shouldn't be any problems but I've tried everything! Do I need to install a driver for my pc to recognise a Dual Layer drive?

I recently had a similar issue with a combo DVD player CD-RW. The drive would work if I went to myComputer and started the program manually but the AUTOPLAY function would not work.

So I reinstalled my old CD-R and was ammazed that it suddenly wouldn't work either. By not work I mean that CD's would not start automatically when inserted and games which required looking for the disk tobe inserted could not find the disk...

Microsoft has a fix which may work for you..(See link)
I downloaded this app and It reset the AutoPlay function
and everything is working with my new player. So give it a try

Try buying some Dual layer Disks. You can only use the dual layer feature with the appropriate media in the drive.

Try Verbatim DVD-R 8.5Gb 'Dual Layered' - 4x - Jewel Cased 5 -

Try replacing the drive cables - sounds like there might be a break in the cable somewhere. if that doesn't work complain to supplier and ask for a refund - then consider an external ones as they are getting cheaper all the time.

It is most likely a plug and play drive, most optical drives are. But right click on my computer > pick manage > click device manager, if you dont have your new optical driver under cd/dvd rom drives then you need to install a driver for it. Make sure you are using the right type of media too, some dvd rw drives only support either - or + media and not both..

You need DVD burning software installed if you are using XP. XP does not have DVD sotware. I have never used this software but here are links to free as well as paid versions.http://protectedsoft.com/download.php

Is it recognised in the Device Manager?

Is it a +R drive, and you are using -R disks, or vice versa?
