Is it possible to connect a audio tape player to a pc for the purpose of downloading music tapes to my hard drive. The tape player has a 5 pin DIN socket. If it is possible can anyone tell me where I can purchase a connection lead?

I'm getting ready to start college in April, through an online program. I was telling my financial aid advisor that I have frequent crashes on my computer, and sometimes it takes me 2-3 days to get it fully functioning again. He said that he was going to try to get an extra $800-1000 added to my financial aid for a new computer. I was really wanting a laptop, I just think it would be more convenient for my classes that way I could log in no matter where I was. My husband wants me to get a desktop PC though, so when I'm not needing it for my classes the rest of the family could use it too. The thing is I really want the laptop, but I'm afraid my son would be extremely jealous. He asked for a laptop for Christmas (he's 11) and we couldn't afford to get him one then, plus I said he was too young for one. If I get a laptop now, my son is going to be really bothered by it. Should I get the laptop or the desktop? If I get the desktop, my son will be getting the old computer.

My PC is old now and needs to be replaced. I don't work on it so I think its possibly time to get a laptop. How do I know which is a good one as I don't want to spend a lot of money. Its just for emails, shopping and updating my i-pod.... I'm in UK.

Ive been messing with my computer for a while, and I figured out its the power wire. I can turn it on with a screw driver, but, I cant get the power switch to work. So...how do I fix it? The wire isnt kinked and it looks like its till hooked to the button...so...how do I fix or replace it?

is it wise to get vista now? ive been hearing ppl saying that its best to wait til end of yr or early next yr (i have no clue why), and to get vista do u need a super expensive graphcs card that supports dx10, advance geometric shader, big 512mb mem?. coz atm i have a nvid geforce 6600gt 256mb and i dont know if thats slightly future proof, thx in advance

I have purchased an hp pavilion 6182 laptop about a two months back with Win XP. Last week, it would suddenly not boot saying missing hal.dll file in system32.However, if I pressed ENTER,it would boot. I tried system restore but it failed.I tried pc recovery from hard dics which failed and NOW the system would not start at all.I tried with laptop recovery disc which failed and instead asked me to format the disc.I formatted it but the laptop is not booting saying the system file missing. Please give your comments.

I'm buying one for college and need one with a large hard drive and it needs to be fast and lightweight (or at least that's what my dad said I need to look for) Any help is greatly appreciated--which laptops you would or would not reccomend. I'm looking for one with windows vista and it has to be compatable with wireless internet. Also, any ideas of the best place to buy one? I'm thinking Best Buy just because I've shopped with them before and would like to buy insurance for the laptop but other ideas would be great. Thanks!

My specs are

amd sempron 64bit 3000
1gb ddr ram
geforce 6800gt
seagate 120gb hdd

I have an envision monitor, for a while the screen was pinching in and i thought it was dying. That stopped now and it randomly
goes into power saving. I changed video cards, monitors, tested ram, reinstalled windows the and the problem still happens. I am starting to think that it is the psu or bad ram but I am not to sure. If anyone has an idea why this is happening any help would be appricated. Everything is installed correctly and this problem has progressively gotten worse. Now when I try to run some programs it goes into power savings and the cpu fan slightly speeds up but other times it doesn't. The cpu temps are also normal?

OK, basically...I built a computer...and it doesnt turn on. I press the power switch and nothing happens. So, I started taking out things to see if there was a short or bad hardware, nothing. I took out the motherboard, hooked up power and the case to it...and nothing happens. The green light comes on, so I assume its not the psu. The only things installed are the RAM, CPU...and thats it. Regardless of the way I hook things up, it doesnt work. So...what do I do?
