Hardware - March 2007

I am once again trying to put together a pc I will use for playing games like sacred, half life, medal of honor, etc...RPG 3D games. Right now I'm using my wifes computer, mine fried. So she has a gateway Intel Pentiun(R) 1.6cpu 512 DDR 2100 and a radeon 9200LE 128 Mg.Ram AGP 4x. However I am doing tons of shopping around for the cheapest motherboard & cpu combo available without killing the performance. I tried MSI, ECS, ASUS, AOPEN, Gigabyte, ABIT, etc, etc...Newegg.com didn't impress me with prices really, neither did TigerDirect. I found this combination and would like others opinions on this system configuration...

Okay, so my computer (not the one I'm on right now) had so many viruses that I couldn't get rid of so I decided to reformat my hardrive. So, without thinking, I just popped the XP Pro CD and let it install, and it gets to a part where it says "Please type the Volume License Key below". I have no idea where that serial number is, I lost it somewhere and didn't think I needed it again. Please help me, I don't know what to do, I'm stuck. And I don't have the money to buy a new product key.

I feel like such a noob for asking this. I built my own computer a few years ago. I put two SATA hard drives in it and there were only two SATA slots.

I wanted to install a third hard drive at some point, but I didn't know if I should get another SATA hard drive or if I'd have to go with an IDE hard drive for the third one. Can you master/slave SATA drives? What should I do?

I know how to figure out how much RAM I have (running in Windows XP) -- My Computer >> Right Click >> Properties, but that's about it.

I need to know how much more I can fit (1) and what type to buy (2). Also, anyone have any GOOD experiences buying online for cheap (3)??

i have a Hp pavillion 500 that was given to me by a friend i tried lots of things to fix it ( cant take to a professional becuz dont have the money ) i even put fedora on it and it seemed to work for a litle bit but quit on me i have since then gone back to my old computer which is pretty outdated its a dell optiplex my question is . Can i take anything from my broken hp (memory or processor or anything like that) and install it in my dell I hate to just throw it away

I want to upgrade my PC from 512 MB to 2 GB. I have two DDR slots and I want to put 1 GB in both slots. Here's the dilemma: my systems specifications says "Maximum allowed memory 1 GB (2 x 512 MB)". Does this mean I can't exceed 1 GB total? Will it hurt my system if add 1 extra GB?

so ibuilt my self a computer about a year and a half ago and it is top of the line. It plays battlefield 2 and unreal and counterstrike/half life sources and everything better then most. But with vista the cpu usage some times (more often then not) is kinda high and slows the copmuter down. What do i need to fix that? more memory? what item does that fdall onto?
