OK, basically...I built a computer...and it doesnt turn on. I press the power switch and nothing happens. So, I started taking out things to see if there was a short or bad hardware, nothing. I took out the motherboard, hooked up power and the case to it...and nothing happens. The green light comes on, so I assume its not the psu. The only things installed are the RAM, CPU...and thats it. Regardless of the way I hook things up, it doesnt work. So...what do I do?

Well...I would, but I am afraid that the computer has no power, so even by doing so would accomplish nothing cause it couldn't process the sheer awesomeness if it wanted to.

But I made progress...it turns on if I disconnect the power switch and touch it with a screw driver. So...what does that mean? The case switch wire is broken?

Well, I did alot of research on the parts, and everything is compatible. The case I have doesnt have a power lead, its just the case design. Like I said though, it turns on if I hit the wires on the board with a screw driver...so...I have no idea what that means.

1.) Clear the CMOS.
2.) Clean the memory pins with a pencil eraser.
3.) If there's a graphics card clean it. if there's none use one for testing!

Do you have your power switch lead properly connected to the motherboard? On thing I would suggest trying is unplugging the power switch lead and using a screw driver to connect the 2 pins, if the motherboard and everything functions properly it should start the computer.

Other possible causes is just simply a bad motherboard or not having all the correct power leads connected to the motherboard. (most new motherboards require 2 seperate power cables to be attached. A large one and a small one.)

You could check if it's the ram by taking it out and then trying to turn it on. If everything else works fine the fans in the computer should spin up and if your motherboard has a PC speaker attached you should hear an error beep code signifying that there is no ram attached.

Even if the light is coming up on the motherboard there still could be a problem with the PSU. it could be supplying some power, but not enough to let the system boot. I have seen that happen a few times. So you may want to borrow one of those from someone to test with.

One other thing is that you may want to verify that your processor and ram are both fully compatible with your motherboard. Some types of ram, even though they are of the same type may run at a slightly different spec. This can also cause problems sometimes.

So basically, it could still be any of the items attached. You may need to test the parts, or take them somewhere to be tested.

Get the little red slider thing on your Power supply. Switch it to the other setting and see if that works. If not, make sure that the right plug is in the motherboard, I think it is P8.
