The basic technology used in optical drives for home PCs has pretty much peaked.

At under $45 average price any LG, Liteon, or Samsung DVD-RW will provide good performance.

They all come with a 1 year warranty, and so even if (& odds are it won't) it dies after one year & a day .... at less than a dollar per week it's not worth going nuts over which one to buy.

Buy ASUS man! This is the best by far! Buy a DVD writer instead of a CD writer. Not much difference in the price. I've got an ASUS DVD writer and it's great man! U can burn much on a single DVD! U won't regret it.

Assuming you want to install it yourself, I'd recommend getting a combination DVD/CD drive at this point. If you click on the below link you'll go to a web page on newegg.com that lists quite a few of them. Any of the ones shown there will do the job for you. Hope this helps.
