Hardware - February 2007

a lap top which recently fell onto a cushioned floor about 1'foot fall.
now it will not charge , the power cord is fine . checked the voltage coming from it and checked it in another computer and it is working. but when i plug it into the lao top that fell it doeasnt show as charging/ plugged in or nothing. computer still starts up off battery power and runs fine. what could this be?

I have a tuner and windows media.I can record tv(movies) but when i try to burn them to disk something goes wrong.The movie i burn wont play on other players.Im lost at this point.I must be doing something wrong.If someone can give me a step by step procedure as to the right way,that would be great

I want a laptop but I don't want to always have to use the battery and waste its juice and keep recharging it. I only want to use the battery when I'm going out or travelling. Can I just take the battery out and use the plug instead so it doesnt overheat the battery and laptop?

The RAM that came along with my non-samsung laptop was only 256MB DDR 333. When I do get to install the samsung PC2700, will everything be changed? like my previous software or the data that I have stored? .... Do I really have to do all the reformatting and stuffs?

Basically this damn hard drive from my personal laptop is making some weird clicking noises. System won't boot up as a result and now I am facing with the daunting task of trying to recover all of my family photos and personal files. Do any of you guys know how much, on average, a job like this would cost and if you would recommend any specific sites/software that I can buy? Thanks!!!

My laptop was working fine the other day. But now I boot it, it goes to the windows loading screen, a blue screen flashes, then it restarts itself. I can't get into the login screen or anything to try and fix it from the inside. So can anyone help me? I'm hoping I can fix it myself, I don't want to tell my parents it's broken already when I've only had it since Christmas.

im installing a second hddrive on my computer. on this hdd i want to install Ubuntu Linux, and i also want to partition off 100Meg or so for extra storage space for my Windows XP. Im gonna be setting it up as a dual boot, so should i install the second hard drive as master or slave? and just btw im installing a SATA hdd, and im not to familiar with them, but can u even set SATA hdds up as master and slaves?

Hi all,
I wonder what is the best paper for a laser printer. Cotton paper?
I am asking because today I put newsprint in my new laser printer and it was jammed in the middle...so I had to open the entire printer to get the sheet back.I heard that 99% of the paper on the market is made from carbon which is not that good. I probably need cotton or something carbonless.

I have always turned off my modem as well and have never had any problems until today. I turned off my computer and modem and when I turned them both back on, I could not connect to the internet. After talking to five or six people in tech support, I was advised to leave the modem on except for 10 or 15 seconds per day to refresh.

Ok While Looking at the requirments for some games I relized that F.E.A.R. (And Many Other Games) dont have the NVIDIA geforce 7300gt on their list of supported chipsets. Will My Game Still Work?
