If the first post fixed your problem and you don't like this feature, go into the Control Panel - find the video applet and disable rotate. I've seen Intel graphics adapters do this when some apps run. Most people disable it if it's a problem.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP.
You can use Automatic Updates or Windows Update to obtain Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
It seems as though you changed the reslution on your screen. When you change the resolution, your view changes 180`.(upside down)

Sounds to me you using a CRT Monitor and your "Yolk" on the "Tube" has moved or shorting out, throwing your Horizontal off.
Linux OS may have the correct answer.

Go to your Your starting page with all your up side down icons.
RIGHT CLICK THEN GO TO GRAPHIC OPTIONS. THEN YOU WILL GET A MENU. AT THE TOP OF IT GO TO ROTATION THEN GO TO NORMAL THAN CLICK APPLY OR O.K.
