I want a laptop but I don't want to always have to use the battery and waste its juice and keep recharging it. I only want to use the battery when I'm going out or travelling. Can I just take the battery out and use the plug instead so it doesnt overheat the battery and laptop?

I, too, use a Toshiba, albeit an older one, and I can also use it without a battery. Just make sure you turn the computer off/ put in standby while your doing it if your battery is in the back, just so you don't accidentally unplug your computer while taking the battery out and lose your work.

The laptop cares not whether it has a battery present, as long as it has power. In some cases, it might even be better for the life of the battery to keep it out.

Every laptop I've ever used ran on an adapter that serves as a power source for the laptop when plugged in and a charger for the battery. I however, think that the battery must be in the computer at all times in order for it to run, regardless of the fact that its plugged into an adapter.

you dont have to have the battery in to run off AC power (power cord) you can take it out and it wont affect the performance of it at all and you can just leave the battery in while plugged up and it still wont hurt it so its just whatever
