when i go to properties on my computer it says i only have 450mb of RAM.. why does it do this and is there a way to correct it?

it's always been like this though, i think the RAM is fine, perhaps it is the onboard video. damn acer laptop!!! lol

Properties is showing you maximum available memory... certain amount is necessary in order to keep the system running... out of your 512 only 450 available the other 62 is being used to keep your session alive at that moment...

your onboard video is using the rest of the ram

you actually have 512MB of RAM in your computer
the "missing" amount is actually being shared by the video card and therefore it doesn't show up in the properties

You probably have an on board video card which is sharing your RAM.
