Hardware - February 2007

I installed Vista first, then XP, but after installing XP the BIOS never gets past verifying DMI Pool Data.

I have my hard drive in 3 seperate partitions, one for vista, one for xp, and one for data :)

Any idea on what I should do? Is there a boot file I need to change somehow with CD utility?

My laptop started making very loud noises equivalent to the sound of a broken air fan or like when you stick a toothpick inside of a fan...it sounds as if something spinning is rubbing against something...I am not sure what it could be other than this noise the laptop works fine...do i need a new one Im thinking of getting one because it is extremely annoying..it never stops only for like 3 seconds then starts up again is this harming it? If i decide to get a new one are there anything you suggest any type of great windows laptop at a good price?

What's best for a gaming laptop, 15 or 17 inch screen? I don't want to spend the money for a larger screen unless it makes that big of a difference.

When I diconnect the power cord the computer completely shuts down like I powered it off. Other than that the laptop works fine. It's about 13 months old.

The problem I seem to be having is when i turn on the computer it shows a black screen with a blue box with the saying "VIDEO CABLE CONNECTED?", also the cpu will not turn off unless I unplug the cord. Does any one know what may be the issue in this matter? Thank you for your help.

I have just bought a creative 5.1 Inspire P580 surround sound system and a Creative Sound Blaster Live Digital 5.1 sound card (SB0100) and, eventually got it to work!!1 But I cannot get the centre speaker to work. I did a test on all the speakers and the centre one was fine. But if i play music it wont work, or play music direct from the internet (youtube) it wont work then either!!

All help greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I've got Vista Ultimate retail and have hooked up my HP LJ3020 All-In-One. It was recognized fine and installed...everything looks good. No errors in the event log, etc. When I try to print via a test print though, it almost immediately stops the job and shows an error in the print queue. I can't print anything. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this -- I've never had a USB printer that didn't just work. Thanks,

I have a new hard drive, and on the existing (old) one, I would the settings, windows XP, programs etc transferred to the new one. I understand about Master and Slave, but which is which? And inside what IDE cable connects to what for master/slave? If software is needed can anyone recommend any decent ones free? Trial? Also provide links of the software.

Can anyone help me out with my new AC adapter I just bought for my Compaq Armada computer on eBay? The computer is a model:7400-6366/T14/10.0/V/M/1, and when I connect the new adapter to it, to charge the battery, it causes the computer to shut down. The adapter is a Compaq #341809-101 and reads "for use with Compaq Series2910 family of computer products only". Is this the wrong adapter (bought new on eBay).
