My laptop started making very loud noises equivalent to the sound of a broken air fan or like when you stick a toothpick inside of a fan...it sounds as if something spinning is rubbing against something...I am not sure what it could be other than this noise the laptop works fine...do i need a new one Im thinking of getting one because it is extremely annoying..it never stops only for like 3 seconds then starts up again is this harming it? If i decide to get a new one are there anything you suggest any type of great windows laptop at a good price?

The loud noise you are hearing probably is, like you said, coming from the fan. If everything is like you mentioned and there is something getting in the way of the fan, you need to stop using your laptop as of now and have someone take a look at it (or even be brave and do it yourself, it really isn't that hard, but some people just don't have the time).
If you choose to just try to ignore the noise you are hearing, you can permanently damage your CPU. If whatever is interfering with the fan finally gets the fan to completely stop spinning, you just might find yourself looking into buying another laptop cause you fried your cpu. This all depends on which type of processor you are using in your laptop. From what i understand most intel cpu's have protection against accidents like this from happening, the CPU will be downclocked and alot slower then normal to prevent it from overheating. AMD cpus on the other hand you have to be very careful with. On a desktop Pc with a AMD cpu all it takes is 8 secs or less without the fan on to burn the chip.
So i recommend that you really stop using the laptop and get it looked at ASAP... Alternatively, If you are just looking for an excuse to have to go buy a new laptop, I recommend you stop using your current one as to not cause any damage and send it to me!! I will gladly accept it..
Any questions? let me know

My friend has the exact same problem, i know how annoying it is. He hasn't got it fixed yet. If you are adventures you could open up the back and make sure that the fan is it the right place and that nothing in the way of the fan blades. Or just bang the fan that could work but then could also damage the laptop. The reason it keeps stopping and starting is becuase the fan is heat controlled and when the cpu has to work more then the fan has to spin and then it makes that noise.
IF the laptop has been running a lot in it's life time, the fan joints may need lubricating to make them run smoothly. But don't just squirt it in there you need to do a very difficult operation. So you could just replace the fan.

It is hard to tell exactly what this could be. From my experience, it could be one of several things.
1. There is debris in the system fan. Clear this area and make sure the air flow through the system is not obstucted in any way.
2. The hard drive is going. Hard drives, particularly in laptops, can get quite "musical" when they start to crash. I would back up your information soon, as this is very likely the case. After the back up, run CheckDisk, Scan Disk and or Disk Defrag or any other utilities you have to check the disk for system damage.
3. It could be that you are aver stressing the system.. If you run lots of system crunching programs (games, norton antivirus and 10 other programs at the same time) then it is likely that your out of memory and the system is using the hard drive as virtual memory. You can buy more ram, or use less programs at a time. However, if this is happening, a laptop upgrade is in order.
I like IBM laptops. They seem to be the best that I have seen. Dell makes descent laptops, but they can be expensive to upgrade. Good Luck!

The only moving parts in a notebook are the CPU and system cooling fan and of course a CD-ROM or floppy drive if included. I'm assuiming the noise is not coming from the CD-ROM or floppy drive.
There is actually a fan body that has metal ducting to route hot air out away from components and out of the system. Typically you just replace it if it's bad. You have to remove the keyboard and keyboard bezel to remove the fan and its body.
The other casue could be a failing hard disk drive. The hard disk drive is typically located at the front left or right of your notebook.
If the sound is coming from near the fan duct you can probalby rule out the hard disk. If the sound is coming from the palm rest then you may have to replace the hard disk.

some how some thing must have gotten in to the fan, if you can see the fan, stop it will a pecil or some thing, it wont hurt it, if it stops makig the noise, then your fan is just worn out or some thing is rubing it, if it still makes the noise, it could be your cd drive, if there are any CDs in the drive take them out, if its not that then it could be your harddrive which would be bad.
